MDF Wall Panelling - Add Style and Character to your Home

Over the last few years, MDF wall panelling has become an “on-trend” way to add style and character to any home. Back in the day, cladding internal walls, or wainscoting, as it was more commonly known, was created using solid timber planks and infill panels to protect walls, hide damp and provide additional insulation.

Today, adding wall paneling is a purely decorative option and MDF is, by far, the most popular material. MDF Wall Panelling is a very cost effective way to add warmth and character to otherwise bland walls, in addition, it is easy to install and is well within the reach of most DIY skill levels.

There are many different types and styles of interior wall cladding available. Which one you decide to choose really depends on your personal preference, the look you want to create and the room you wish to use it in. The following are some examples of options available to you.

The most popular option has to be Shaker Style MDF wall panels. It’s clean traditional lines will add a warm and homely feel to any home, old or new. Shaker style is a popular choice for living room, bedroom, and hallway wall panels but can be used in any room you wish.

Many online wood wall panelling companies offer “MDF Wall Panelling “kits” however, the simplest, and most cost effective way to purchase Shaker Wall Panelling is to order pre-cut strips of Moisture Resistant MDF online. This open back wall panelling solution is easy to calculate, easy to fit and will add value and style to your home.

The Steps to Shaker Style Wall Panelling

  1. Measure the height and width of your wall (potentially your whole room).
  2. Pick the grid size you’d like to achieve (view our example)
  3. Choose the width of the panelling (we think 100mm works nicely in most rooms)
  4. Using the simple calculations work out the width of each horizontal batten.

Once you have this you can order all your components online, you’ll just need to choose what thickness of material you want to use, we recommend 6mm, 9mm or 12mm, in most instances the choice is purely aesthetic and will depend on where you want it, for example, living room wall panelling. We recommend using moisture resistant MDF as this gives a better painted finish. Ready to add shake style wall panelling to your home?
